This project is the largest scale undertaking I was consulted for. The client purchased a split level, built in the 1960s, and was in need some options to open the space, and improve the flow of the layout for their growing family.
The process involved modeling the house from the ground up in Rhino3D, beginning by taking measurements to establish the footprint of the residence. Next, meticulous measurements of the interior of the home were taken to establish usable square footage, and the relationship of the rooms to one other. Furnishings and permanent installations were calculated and modeled in last, to help the client visualize the space they had to work with.
After the initial footprint and floorpan were uploaded into SketchUp, the client and I could manipulate the environment digitally, to find a layout that worked for their family. This approach was invaluable to the client because it allowed them to visualize the scale of the renovation, give them a realistic outlook of what could be done within their budget, and gave them a sense of the finished space before any demo began.
